Abstract

Pre-treated stainless steel substrates were dip-coated with yttria-doped zirconia, and the quality of the coatings was studied by a newly proposed non-destructive method, comparing the results with those obtained with other techniques. The objective was to analyze the effect of the coating?s quality on the corrosion rate. To this end, the corrosion rate was determined by means of the linear polarization resistance method. The results showed coatings deposited on the polished substrate at a withdrawal rate of 25 mm min?1 to be the most uniform and homogeneous, and to present the best resistance to corrosion.
