Abstract

The use of a micro-volume infrared transmission flow cell for quantitative determinations of CO2 dissolved in solutions following electrochemical oxidation reactions is described. Results are compared with previous in situ infrared measurements as a step toward evaluating the performance of infrared spectroelectrochemical cells under conditions where non-ideal optical effects can become important. The electrochemical oxidation of formic acid on platinum is investigated as a model.
