Abstract

The effects of C-substitution for N on the pitting corrosion resistance of type UNS S32205 duplex stainless steel (DSS) were investigated. It was found that the C-substituted DSS possessed higher resistance to pitting corrosion than the normal DSS. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy analyses on the passive films of the DSSs revealed that the passive films formed on the both ? and ? phases in the C-substituted DSS contained higher Cr content than those in the normal DSS, which was considered to be the reason for the enhanced resistance to pitting corrosion.
